All Centre’s first release takes shape as a two track E.P from Simkin. Hailing from South London the producers debut E.P features two outings into the producers signature hybrid sound, delivering tracks that feel as ready to wrestle with audiences in small clubs as they are to challenge dancers at festival sets.
Lead track, "Malfunction" lays down the gauntlet for Simkin’s vision of what can be achieved when experimenting with the tropes of techno and club music. Kicking off with rich but measured percussive clicks and claps the track soon breaks into a hypnotic woozy synth line punctuated with weighty drums. As the track unfolds further effects are introduced, adding to the palette of hazy sounds that feature heavily in Simkin’s work.
Halfway through a menacing set of synth chords are introduced to mark the breakdown of the track and re-introduction of the tracks main synth.
B-side “System” is a marked change to Malfunction switching up 4x4 kicks for jittery drums and bass swells that nod towards a bygone eras of the producers South London home. The track is immediately more atmospheric than it’s counterpart deploying floating synths which drive the tracks introduction forward before it meets with deeper kick sounds and the repeated phrase “system”. The metallic lead motif of the track breaks in from almost no where at the 32 bar mark accompanied by crisp percussion and rolling FX. As the track develops rhythmic variations of both the synth and percussion keep the track moving.
Malfunction is available across all platforms the 17th of August.
